Today I’m reviewing small-cap Norway based shipping and ports firm.

It’s name is American Shipping Company ASA

It’s trading ticker symbol is ASCJF.

American Shipping Co ASA is a ship owning and lease finance company with a fleet product tankers and shuttle tanker operating in the U.S. domestic trades.

American Shipping Company ASA operates a fleet of 9 product tankers and 1 shuttle tanker. The company was formerly known as Aker American Shipping ASA and changed its name to American Shipping Company ASA in June 2008. American Shipping Company ASA was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Lysaker, Norway.

I use three key data points to gauge the value of any dividend equity or fund like American Shipping Company ASA:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

After those three, four more keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest.

No matter what, it’s the first three primary traits that best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

ASCJF Price

American’s price was $3.60 per share at Friday’s market close. A year ago its price was $3.06 for a gain of $0.54 per share in the past year.

Assuming American’s price will continue to trade in the range of $2.50 to $5.00 next year, its price could grow another $0.54 from $3.60 to $4.14 by July 2, 2019.

ASCJF Dividends

American’s most recently declared quarterly dividend was $0.08 per share paid June 7th. That $0.08 quarterly dividend equates to an annual payout of $0.32  or an 8.89% yield at Friday’s $3.60 closing stock price.

Gains For ASCJF?

American’s $0.54 estimated year over year price gain plus an anticipated dividend of  $0.32 makes a projected gross annual gain of $0.86 per share, which will be reduced by the costs to trade those shares.

A little over $1,000.00 invested today at the $3.60 price buys 278 shares.
