Lionsgate’s (LGF) “Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween” earned $16.7M domestically over the October 30 weekend, dipping just 39% from its opening and beating expectations for $12M-$14M.

Sony’s (SNE) “Inferno” debuted at $15M against forecasts of $25M-$30M. The film, the third entry in the Dan Brown film series kicked off by the 2006 “The Da Vinci Code,” received a B+ in audience polls from CinemaScore, holds a 20% approval rating on reviews aggregator RottenTomatoes, and was produced with a reported budget of $75M. “Inferno” was released internationally well in advance of its U.S. start, and has grossed a cumulative $132.7M in foreign markets.

Taking third place, Viacom’s (VIA) “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” added $9.6M against estimates of $11.5M-$12.5M, representing a second weekend drop of 58%. Rounding out the top five, Time Warner’s (TWX) “The Accountant” and Comcast’s (CMCSA) “Ouija: Origin Of Evil” earned a respective $8.5M and $7.1M.

Meanwhile, ahead of its U.S. launch next weekend, Disney’s (DIS) Marvel Comics superhero film “Doctor Strange” opened at $86M overseas. Other publicly traded companies in filmmaking include Fox (FOX).
