In this video we look at the tops and tailwinds in China as 2018 looms. Specifically, the video walks you through a couple of slides of a recent edition of the Weekly Macro Themes report. In the video we talk through the key tailwinds that have turned things around from a cyclical standpoint in China over the last 12-18 months: property market going from bust to boom, a coordinated monetary and fiscal policy push, and a big turnaround in exports thanks to a weaker currency and better global economy. How the “tops” aspect comes into it is on the property market, which as we’ve previously talked about is currently cooling off and at risk of going into a slowdown. Likewise the fiscal/monetary tail winds are beginning to fade. It’s not an outright bearish story just yet, but it’s important to be across the key drivers and trends here in what will most likely be a less boring year.
