Ryanair is set to inject €5 billion into Spain over the next seven years, demonstrating its commitment to the country.The announcement follows a meeting between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary on 12 January in Madrid. As part of its long-term strategy, Ryanair aims to significantly increase its passenger volume to Spain, escalating from the current 55 million to 77 million. The airline plans to achieve this by expanding its routes from the existing 730 to over 1,000 by 2030.Ryanair’s roadmap also includes the addition of 33 new aircraft and the establishment of five new bases. During the meeting, O’Leary pledged collaboration on fortifying regional airports, contributing to the economic development of lesser-known areas in Spain.With a current workforce of 6,500 employees in Spain, Ryanair holds a leading position in the country for the number of passengers transported, boasting more than 700 routes originating from 29 countries.Sánchez wrote on X (formerly Twitter): ‘I want to thank Michael O’Leary for his ambitious investment plan in Spain of €5bn in the coming years. I celebrate the commitment of a leading company to our country and our tourism and business sector, which demonstrates the confidence generated by our human, physical and technological talent. Spain is a great country to invest.’
